We met Sarah Million Mc Cormick, one half of the Million & Clark husband/wife team, unknowingly admiring these madrone handle knives in a wool felted sheath at a small boutique in Mendocino.    

In addition to furniture design and wood objects, they hand shape hardwood and assemble the creations with O1 high carbon steel from a multi-generational family business Theirs, France to give the blank blades a new lease on life. The couple uses a variety domestic hardwood and salvaged materials in creating products that beautiful and functional. 

Upcycling old high carbon steel is a selling point for the consumer because, in addition to developing a lovely patina, knife easier to sharpen and maintain at home as opposed to stainless steel, which is a very hard material that often requires a professional service.
